Entertainment Alliance (ACE) is a worldwide partnership composed of the entertainment industry’s leading names to combat piracy and ensure protection of intellectual property rights. ACE was formed in 2017 and brings together top film theaters, TV networks, and streaming services to collectively deal with the challenges posed by online piracy. This coalition has, among others, Disney, Netflix, Amazon, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., etc.
By pooling resources together, ACE members are able to disrupt and dismantle piracy operations, thereby targeting both large-scale piracy networks as well as individuals infringing on copyright. To effectively fight against piracy, ACE uses a number of methods, such as an investigation to identify and close down illegal streaming sites, file sharing platforms, and illicit devices for streaming content.
In addition to this, however, the alliance also engages in legal actions meant to interrupt distribution of pirated materials through domain seizures, coupled with working around the clock with global law enforcement agencies.
Apart from focusing on enforcement efforts, ACE aims at enlightening individuals about the negative consequences associated with piracy in the entertainment field and the broader economy.
The coalition undertakes consumer education campaigns and outreach programs aimed at informing them why it is necessary for people to support legal channels when accessing content instead of engaging in copyright infringement so that they can be aware of the risks connected therewith. The approach that ACE takes has been effective in fighting against piracy.
This has involved closure of many pirate websites and services by the coalition, which disrupts activities carried out by pirates, therefore reducing availability of pirated content online. Besides this, ACE endeavors have led to increased accountability for individuals as well as organizations involved in copyright infringement. However, despite all these milestones made so far, there is still an ongoing battle against pirates.
